Fabric & Notion Requirements
18” x 21” Background Quilting Fabric
12” x 17” Accent Quilting Fabric
Finished block is 12”. Pattern assumes a ¼” seam allowance
Cutting Instructions
Cut fabric into the following pieces:
Background:
- (9) 3” squares
- (6) 2” squares
- (2) 2” x 3 ½”
- (2) 2” x 8”
- Accent:
- (9) 3” squares
- (11) 2” squares
Half-Square Triangle (HST) Construction:
1. Draw a line diagonally from corner to corner on the back of all 3” accent squares.
2. Pin one marked accent square to a corresponding background square, Right Sides Together (RST).
3. Sew ¼” away from each side of the line.
4. Trim HSTs apart along marked lines.
5. Press seams to the darker fabric.
6. Square HSTs to 2”.
Block Construction:
1. Lay HSTs, squares and rectangles out using picture for placement.
2. Pin units together and stitch into rows.
3. Press Rows 1, 3, 5 & 7 to the right. Press Rows 2, 4 & 6 to the left. Seams will nest when rows are sewn together.
4. Pin and sew rows together. Press seams open.
5. Cut background fabric into (4) 2” x 18” strips.
6. Pin strip to right side of block and sew in place. Repeat on left side of block.
7. Press seams toward strips.
8. Trim strips flush with top and bottom edges of block.
9. Pin remaining strips to the top and bottom of the block and sew in place.
10.Press seams toward strips.
11. Square block to 12 ½”.
