Q&A What is the thickness of this thread? How is it different from elastic cord? Elastic thread is a very thin elastic thread used to create gathering, shirring and smocking on lightweight fabrics. Our spool can be used on the bobbin of the machine and sew multiple rows to achieve the desired effect. Elastic cording is a light, stretch elastic cord. It is great for making buttonhole loops and can also be used to create gathers by sewing zigzag over the cord on wrong side of fabric.
