Apple Garland

Create a charming DIY apple garland to add a handmade touch to your fall décor. This easy craft project is perfect for decorating kitchens, classrooms, mantels, parties, or seasonal displays and makes a fun addition to back-to-school and autumn decorating.

Apple Pattern

Instructions:

Step 1: Download the pattern from DesigningCheerfully on Etsy. Use only the apple portion of the pattern.

Step 2: Trace the full apple shape onto brown felt and cut it out.

Step 3: Trace each apple piece onto Heat‑n‑Bond. If you’re making 6 apples, trace the set 6 times; for 12 apples, trace it 12 times. Don’t cut out the shapes precisely—cut loosely around them.

Step 4: Fuse each traced piece onto its corresponding fabric color, then cut out the fabric shapes.

Step 5: You should now have all the apple components (the main apple base in red, green, or yellow).

Step 6: Peel the Heat‑n‑Bond backing from each fabric piece and press them together with an iron to assemble the apples.

Step 7: Stitch around the apple bases to add texture and detail.

Step 8: For each pennant base, cut beige or light brown fabric to 5" × 6½". If making 12 pennants, cut 24 pieces (front and back). Cut SF101 interfacing in the same size to add structure.

Step 9: Pin the front and back pieces with right sides together. Sew around the edges, leaving a 3" opening for turning.

Step 10: Turn the pennants right‑side out, press them flat, sew the opening closed, and add a ⅛" topstitch around the edge.

Step 11: Use Liquid Stitch to adhere each apple to its pennant.

Step 12: Tie twine into small bows and glue them to the tops of the apples with Liquid Stitch.

Step 13: For the binding, cut two strips measuring 2½" × width of fabric. Sew them together to make one long strip.

Step 14: Fold the strip in half lengthwise and press. Open it, fold each raw edge toward the center crease, then fold in half again. Press and clip to hold the binding closed.

Step 15: Insert each finished pennant into the fold of the binding and re‑clip. Sew the binding closed along the entire length. Add a topstitch along the top edge of the pennants and binding for extra stability.
