Instructions:
Step 1: Draw your template onto your Pellon Ultra Firm Fusible Stabilizer. Use the OmniArc to help. Measure the arc to be approx. 11.5 inches from the tip of the arc to the other side. From the center of the arc measure down to 6.5 inches, then draw a line from each side to the 6.5 mark. If your stabilizer is fusible, draw this on the side that is not fusible.
Step 2: Take your choice of fabric and press it to the fusible side.
Step 3: Use your Omnigrid Rulers and rotary cutter to cut out your hat base.
Step 4: Take your hat bases to your sewing machine and sew a quilt design. Sew a 1-inch grid. Add a extra stitch down both sides of the hat for extra stability.
Step 5: Use your embellishments to decorate your hat. Add some applique stars, or ruffled trims, Pompoms, RicRac, Lace, however you want to finish your hat. You can add it here or after your hat is formed.
Step 6: For the Straps, use ribbons. Fold your hat into position and figure out where the ‘side’ is. Then draw a line. Sew your ribbon on, then fold it over and sew again for extra stability.
Step 7: Use Hot Glue to sew the seams together to close your hat. Use clips to hold it in place.
Step 8: Finish off your hat, if you want to add more ruffles or ricrac or pompoms. If you didn’t do this in step 5.
And you’re done! Congratulations on making the DIY Patriotic Party Hats!
