- Cotton Fabric: 1 fat quarter
- Heat-n-Bond Lite Sewable (double-Sided Iron on)
- Sewing Machine
- Thread
- Lace/Trim in white / Cream color for stripes approx. 24 inches long.
- Dritz Liquid Stitch
Supplies
Cotton Fabric:
(2) Red Strips of Fabric measure approx. 1 inch x 8 ½ inches
(2) Red Strips of Fabric measure approx. 1 inch x 5 ¼ inches
(1) Blue fabric that measures approx. 3 ¾ x 2 ¼ inches
(1) White fabric 6 ¼ inches x 8 ½ inches.
(1) White 2 inch x 3 inches for your star
- SF 101 interfacing 6 ¼ inches x 8 ½ inches & another 2 inch x 3 inch.
Instructions:
LAYING OUT YOUR CUT PIECES
Step 1: Print the Template for the USA Letters. Cut out the Star.
Step 2: Use your Omnigrid Ruler/Cutting Mat and Rotary cutter to cut your fabric to the following measurements: This is a great use of your scraps:
- (2) Red Strips of Fabric measure approx. 1 inch x 8 ½ inches
- (2) Red Strips of Fabric measure approx. 1 inch x 5 ¼ inches
- (1) Blue fabric that measures approx. 3 ¾ x 2 ¼ inches
- (1) White fabric 6 ¼ inches x 8 ½ inches. (Base of flag)
- (1) White 2 inch x 3 inches for your star
CUT & PRESS
Step 3: Cut your SF101 to 6 ¼ inches x 8 ½ inches and press onto the back of your white fabric for some stability.
Step 4: Cut and press Heat-n-Bond to the back of each of the red stripes and to the back of the small white piece for the star.
Step 5: Trace your star onto the back of your white fabric with the Heat-n-Bond. Cut out and sit aside.
PEEL THE HEAT-N-BOND
Step 6: Peel the back of the Heat-n-Bond off the red striped fabric and iron onto the white base fabric.
OVERLAPPING THE TRIM
Step 7: Measure out your Lace/Trim across the white portions and sew down across the top of the trip. Ever-so-slightly overlapping the red stripes.
ADHERE THE STAR
Step 8: Take your Blue Fabric and the Star and adhere the star in place with your iron. Then take it to your sewing machine and sew around the star.
Step 9: Sew the Blue fabric on top of the Flag.
Step 10: Pin your flag to your shirt and Sew around your flag giving it a ¼ inch seam allowance.
